Cheryl Barton, CMCH

Cheryl received a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from BrighamYoung University and her Master’s Degree at the University of Phoenix in Mental Health Counseling. Cheryl studied at Brigham Young University in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Hawaii. Her experiences have allowed her to appreciate different cultures, viewpoints, and embrace diversity. Cheryl came to this field due to her own personal family experiences raising four children; issues such as adoption, attachment disorders, mental illness, addiction, low self-worth, spiritual confusion, divorce, and grief and loss. These experiences allow her to connect with empathy and support others with compassion and understanding. Cheryl has worked in the field of mental health and addiction for a decade, in both inpatient and outpatient settings, the most recent being the Clinical Director of a residential mental health and drug treatment facility. She exhibits extensive knowledge about the underlying causality of substance abuse, trauma and its effects on the brain and with relationships, depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, poor self-worth, challenges with family dynamics, communication, and co-dependency. Cheryl believes in individualized treatment for the differing needs of each client and uses a variety of modalities, which may include; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Cheryl is trained in EMDR and also has specialized training in supporting parents with grief and loss through drug overdose. Cheryl loves to travel, enjoys photography, hiking, anything by water, and playing with her nine grandchildren and her golden doodle, Finley. She is light-hearted and loves to laugh, mostly at herself, and surrounds herself with quality people who believe in living their best lives. Her purpose and meaning in life is to support others in learning how to do the same.
