Lura Carey, CMHC, RN

Lura Carey CMHC RN

Hi, I’m Lura. I’m licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Registered Nurse, and a Certified Hypnotherapist. I attended Weber State University (RN), Utah Valley University (bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science), University of Phoenix (master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling), and The Wellness Institute of Seattle Washington (hypnotherapy.)

My counseling experience has included working with grief, trauma, and disenfranchised loss: socially stigmatized due to sexual orientation, types of death loss such as suicide or murder, misunderstood grief from fetal, infant, or child loss, or fertility and adoption issues.

I have shared the joy with clients reconnecting with one of the people (biological mother, adoptive parent, and adult-child) in a relinquishment/adoption triad, and facilitated the reconciliation of parent(s) and child long estranged.

My 30 year RN career has included fulfilling work in almost every department of hospital nursing in 8 hospitals, 3 free-standing psychiatric facilities, long-term nursing care, and residential treatment care for youth at risk. I have taught nursing courses, and grief and trauma classes. My nursing knowledge and experience now inform a fuller understanding of a person’s mind, body, and spirit. My most profound professional belief is that within each individual is the wisdom needed to heal virtually any and all of the wounds that hold you back, leave you feeling alone and abandoned, or judged. It is my passion and my privilege to be able to travel part of your journey with you and help you discover the skills and knowledge you need to live your most complete life. Sometimes the work is hard. It may be painful and even scary at times. You cannot change the events of the past but with my education, training, and experience, I can help you take the pain out of the past, allowing you to learn new skills and new patterns of interacting within your relationships. Welcome to the freedom, health, and happiness to be who you were always meant to be.
